WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN ’23

Fall in love with these great finds for fall in fashion, home décor, and more.

September 2022

From what we saw on the runways for fall, fashion is all over the place this season. It’s almost like designers were on Team Yin or Team Yang. Diaphanous fabrics in lighter colors, say, pink or lavender, floated down the runway, while take-no-prisoners red leather dresses, jumpsuits and skirts had a distinctly ’80s vibe. Speaking of the ’80s, it looks like we haven’t seen the last of the bold-shoulder trend for both men and women. Meanwhile, Alexander McQueen, Oscar de la Renta and Valentino sent models down the catwalk in neon-bright colors, while at Etro, Givenchy and Michael Kors, it was back in black all the way. Just about everyone did some version of the basic white tee or tank. Slip dresses were embellished with crystals and sequins at Botega Veneta, while Saint Laurent sent models down the runway in feminine ankle skimming dresses. Expect to see cropped leather jackets and bombers and reimagined trench coats in store this season, too.

Home décor seems to have taken its cue from the ’70s when earth tones were all the rage. Oh, and patterned wallpaper is making a comeback in a big way. Plush, cozy textures, textiles that are nubby or furry, subtle colors and soft edged pieces are all right on trend. If minimalism isn’t your thing, take comfort in the fact that layers and textures are in again. Mix things up by papering the walls, painting the walls one shade and the trim in a contrasting color, or playing with patterns. Light wood and clean lines lend a zen-like vibe to any room, but don’t count traditional design out just yet. Ornate mirrors, velvet chairs and even sofas with fringe along the cushions are making a comeback.
